The roles for women in 1950s portrayed in the movie would be looked at as weird & crazy in our society. The women didn't work because there dreams where to be housewives, take care the kids, have dinner ready by 5 o'clock . Katherine Watson felt like those very intelligent women should pursue there dreams & go on to law or medical school if that's what they want to do. Also that they shouldn't waste there smarts after they get married & also suggested that her students shouldn't be in a hurry to be married.
Katherine Watson was labeled as unorthodox because of teachings methods. The dean board wanted her to be the teacher they want with giving them the lesson plans, had to make sure they approved before she could give it to her students & also couldn't have a relationship with her students & couldn't give them advice. She did all of those things & that's why at the end of the movie she decide to leave because that's basically take away the soul of a teacher.
Yea i think that now a days that its crazy how the wife should have everything done by 5:00.The wife shouldn't have to do all of that all day everyday.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. Katherine Watson had a completely different take on women's roles in this time period. She was also willing to express those feelings in her "unorthodox" teaching methods.
